More about the sci comm offices (available in German and English)

Science communications in the periphery – the dialogue with civil society. Experiences and challenges of a case study in Brandenburg (P)

To start with, the presentation will explain the ways and intentions of the Brandenburg government in creating, a few years ago, seven offices in smaller cities in the periphery of the federal state. It will then describe the governance structure between the Science Ministry e, the involved universities and the offices themselves.

The presentation will then focus on the tasks of the two sci comms offices in the cities of Spremberg and Finsterwalde. These two offices are managed by the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg with a team consisting of 5 colleagues working on site and Marita Müller as director.

Some examples will illustrate the challenges the team have been facing. On this basis, the specific challenges in science communication will be identified, to be discussed with the audience.

Furthermore, the results of an evaluation are going to be presented and discussed: What lessons can be learned from various events? What is important to keep in mind? What are the dos and don’ts? After some recommendations for similar activities the audience will be invited to share their examples for the dialogue with civil society. What kind of experiences have they made? Did they attempt to measure the impact, and how did they do that?

This is a Presentation (low to medium interactive) taking place in ROOM E2 (CLE first floor)
