After his studies in Germany and Slovakia, Vinzenz had been working as a journalist in Middle Eastern Europe, Kazakhstan, Russia and Germany. After his training at the political magazine Cicero in Berlin and at the Ringier Journalist School in Switzerland, he worked for the largest Swiss media outlet, the Blick group. There, as Head of Social Media & New Audience he was one of the responsibles for product development and content strategy. Since 2022 Vinzenz is responsible for ETH Zurich's Social Media channels and online news. He is an enthusiast for innovation, co-creation and mental health.
Digital media have become the focus of media consumption. Social Media play a central role in this. Due to the different user interfaces of the platforms, it is a challenge to uphold a consistent visual branding – especially in decentralised institutions such as universities with departments and divisions.
To solve this problem, ETH Zurich has established a template system that enables communications managers to create content easily and in line with the corporate design. Thus, the Corp Comms team can advise them and provide employees with tools to help them edit content. In our case, we specifically use Canva and Adobe applications.
Our approach is confirmed by a steadily growing number of users in the system. Posts now can be seamlessly shared thanks to their uniformity. In this way, the various channels of the departments and units can easily be used as multipliers, with the ETH Zurich brand always in the foreground and collaboration between the various actors being encouraged.
These templates are one pilllar of our strategy - next to exchange formats and webinars - to elevate digital storytelling across our university, to make it accessible and to ensure brand unity across campus.
This workshop will guide participants through the process of building and deploying a scaleable template system. We’ll discuss the practical steps to design versatile templates, implement brand guidelines, and create a network for cross-departmental exchange and support.
